Mission and Values

St. Paul's believes its recent call of the Lord has been to learn: "how to be a Family of God, and to treat one another as true brothers and sisters". We do this through a process of "Having Ears to Hear, Eyes to See and Hearts To Share," that are gifts of God's Spirit in Christ.

Being an Episcopalian means Striving To Fulfill Christ's Mission of Redemption ... witnessing to Christ by selflessly SERVING God and all people. As a Family of God we will try --- to follow God's Commandments --- raise children in Christ's love --- and get involved in the ministry of discipleship in the Church. Another way of saying this is that being an Episcopalian means actively Participating in the world through Christ in the Church.

Past, Present and Future

St. Paul's Episcopal Congregation is listed as being officially present in Artesia in 1905. We were a mission until 1953 when we attained Parish Status and built a new Church Building and an adjacent Rectory. Twenty-Five priests have served the congregation. The Active Ministries are: Altar Guild, Layreader/Acolyte, Compassionate Ministry (Lay Led Prayer & Pastoral Care), Music, AA & Al-Anon, and we are involved with formation & support of Grace House Inc. a Home in Carlsbad for Abused and Neglected Youngsters of Eddy County. Our Pastor is on the board at Grace House, Inc. Several of St. Paul's Church Family also served on Board of Grace House, Inc. in Carlsbad, NM most notably, Mr. David Vandiver, President of the Board and Doris Waller. Several years ago we were joined in ministry by licensed Catechist Judy Metts who is building a viable Christian Education Ministry for the Church Family. We have a superb pianist/song leader Barbara Britain.

We are looking forward to the future and another 100 years of witnessing to God in Christ.
