Stories & Encounters From All Around The Lincoln County New Mexico Area
From the beginning of recorded time, humans have reported encounters with paranormal phenomena.
We've all been regaled with stories of hauntings and encounters with ghosts and other supernatural
things. We've sat at campfires trying to scare each other with tales that we've heard over and
over again and also sharing with others our own experiences with strange phenomenal encounters
that had happened to us or someone we knew at one time or another.
My point is that the paranormal has touched all of us in some way. While some of you may not
believe in the paranormal happenings, chances are, you do know a good ghost story. We came to
find out that Lincoln County, New Mexico is rich in legends and stories involving the paranormal.
So in our intent to share some of them with you, we decided to create this website so everyone could share
their stories and encounters that may of happened to them or others while living or traveling thru
the Lincoln County, N.M. area.
When I was younger I remember stories that my grandmother would tell me on how spanish and
hispanic locals of Lincoln County would be cautious of displaying a newborn child for fear of the
"evil eye." Others stories told to me were of locals swearing to have seen "flying
fireballs," in the Lincoln County area and pointed these to be powers of witchery.
Being born Hispanic, I was also quickly told that the owl was a bird of ill omen. The weird, shrill
screech of the tecolote would shatter the stillness of the night and strike terror into the stoutest
of heart and anyone who saw an owl perched on the roof of a home or on the limb of a nearby tree would
usually be cast into the very depths of despair. Such stories as those above were told to me over the
years as I was growing up and now I will be able to share them with you. In return I will read the stories that
you will share with all of us and together we can create a wonderful website of Lincoln County Folktales.
