AAUW, Carlsbad, NM, Branch Inc.  Newsletter

About Us

The Carlsbad Branch of AAUW was organized in May 1928, five years before the state organization was established. One of the purposes of AAUW, as defined by the original charter is “to unite alumnae of different institutions for practical education work.” Membership in AAUW is intended to encourage women to continue their intellectual growth, to further the advancement of women, and to discharge their special responsibility to society. Throughout the past century, Carlsbad’s branch of AAUW has succeeded in promoting these principles through many different programs and activities. The most enduring activity has been scholarships for girls for excellent academic achievement in high school. The first award was given in 1929 and continues today.
